Orientation

 

Our Orientation Program will help you adapt to living and studying in Australia. This is an exciting opportunity for you to make friends and prepare for the semester ahead.

What happens during your orientation?

You will need to report to the Charles Sturt University (CSU) Study Centre reception at 8:45 am on the first day of your course for orientation.

Your photo will also be taken on this day for your student identity card. Please remember to bring your passport for orientation as this will ensure the registration process runs smoothly.

During orientation program you need to ensure your enrolment details and personal details are correct. You will receive all necessary information required during your study at a CSU Study Centre.

The program includes workshops on library orientation, accessing computer laboratories, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), visa requirements, accommodation options and other support services. Your course Timetable will also be provided to you during the orientation week.

You have an option of attending the Referencing and Writing workshops organised by the Student Coordinators.

You will be informed about CSU’s online learning environment called ‘my.csu’. This is a personalised area of the CSU website, which provides links to online services and facilities such as email, personal details, enrolled subjects, forums, student services information, online library and exam results.

You will be introduced to your Course Coordinators who will help you enrol into the specific subjects and assist you with academic counselling and study support wherever necessary.

You will meet with the Student Services staff who will provide you personal guidance on information regarding health insurance and other support services if required.

Other orientation activities include:

  • Introduction of each staff member & their role
  • Course information session
  • Health - All student visa holders must have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). You will receive your OSHC card at the reception between 2-4 weeks after your course start date
  • Visa assistance - Information about visa extension and what you’ll need to do
  • Change of Address – Your responsibility on informing campus when you change your address in Australia
  • Accommodation options – inform you on range of accommodation available. Our college have full time Accommodation Coordinator who can assist you if you want to live with host families and residential student accommodation
  • University facilities and services – access to student services assistance, work placement assistance, course coordinators and social activities coordinators
  • University rules and regulations - Emergency procedures

Knowing your responsibilities

  • Satisfy your student visa conditions
  • Maintain your Overseas Student Health Cover for the period of your stay
  • Meet the terms of the written agreement with us
  • Inform us if you change your address
  • Maintain satisfactory course progress
  • If you are under 18, maintain your approved accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements.

Checklist of what you need to bring

  • Your Passport
  • Your Offer letter from the University
  • If you are applying for a credit transfer, bring your certified copies of transcripts, course completion certificates and subject descriptions for the subjects studied
