Harpreet travelled from India to study the Bachelor of Accounting at Charles Sturt University Study Centres, Melbourne. She shares her memories from feeling shy on her first day to now, where she’s grown into a confident and ambitious person. She’s now successfully graduated from her degree and works as an accountant in Melbourne. Read her story below.

I still remember my first day at Charles Sturt University Study Centres. I was really nervous and scared to start a new life that was so different from the one I had back home. I was just a girl from India, standing in the corner, away from the crowd because I didn't have the confidence to communicate in English. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to understand the Aussie accent.

A new education system

As the education system is totally different from India, I was struggling with my studies too. Living alone without my family, I even felt homesick. There was a point when I thought of giving up and going back. But, just as a family would do, Charles Sturt helped me to stand up again.

Supported like a family

Thanks to the study support, lecturers and course coordinators, they helped me through my journey. They helped me with assignments and I started developing my academic skills and scoring distinctions in all my assessments. The counselling team helped me out of the stressful period. And my amazing classmates always tried to make me feel good. Many international students enrol every semester, however, Charles Sturt University Study Centres takes care of every single student like a parent.

Graduation success

Now I’m one of the graduate ambassadors for Charles Sturt University Study Centres and working as an accountant in a reputed firm. I help all the students that feel the same nervousness and stress as I used to.

The Charles Sturt University Study Centres team made me a confident and ambitious girl who never wants to give up.

I feel like Melbourne is my second home and Charles Sturt is my second family.
