What is business marketing?
Business marketing involves building efficient marketing strategies and promotions for a business’ products or services. Marketers play a crucial role in the success of a business, using creativity, strategic thinking and a strong communication style to develop campaigns promoting or launch a product or service. They manage customer and stakeholder relationships and maintain the brand's image through their effective presentation and communication skills.
The main responsibilities of the marketing management function include: market analysis, marketing strategy development, marketing program development and implementation, and new product development and service.
About the course
Our three-year degree will develop your understanding of industry and commerce, such as strategy development, innovation and international marketing. Success in business marketing means you need good communication, presentation and customer relationship management skills in order to attract the interests of potential customers. Our hands-on approach to teaching and learning will help you develop these skills so you are well-prepared to competently present your business to future stakeholders.
What will you study?
You must successfully complete 24 subjects to graduate with a Bachelor of Business (Marketing). You will study a mix of core and elective subjects:
- 11 core subjects
- 3 restricted electives (Group A)
- 2 restricted electives (Group B)
- 8 unrestricted electives or electives for Joint Study.
Choosing your subject
As part of your degree, you must ensure that you complete:
- no more than 12 Level 1 subjects
- a minimum of 5 Level 3 subjects.

Unrestricted electives
You must choose eight unrestricted elective subjects.
An elective is any undergraduate subject offered by Charles Sturt University. You must meet prerequisites and enrolment restrictions. At least three must be business or business-related subjects.
Alternatively you can complete electives for Joint Study in another discipline area.

Electives for Joint Study
You can tailor your degree to suit your career aims and direction by adding a Joint Study in one of the following areas:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Human Resource Management
- Law
- Management
- Online Business Technologies.
A Joint Study is a prescribed set of subjects taken from a different discipline to your main degree. Both disciplines studied will then be included on your degree certificate. You cannot claim for more than one Joint Study. You must ensure that you take the necessary prerequisites or have the required assumed knowledge.
Business and marketing career opportunities
Graduates go on to varied and exciting positions in marketing, from product management and research to digital and sales functions. Depending on the electives you choose to study, you may go into a range of roles after you graduate.
